Re: Anyone familiar with or own a 9mm Sig P226?
Not a Sig man myself but I have shot a lot of different kinds of 9x19mm's with a lot of different types of ammo at a lot of different kinds of stuff. I like 124gr JHP loads for defensive purposes because they tend to offer the best mix of penetration, expansion and reliable feeding. 147's are good too but I've heard of a few guns that didn't like to feed them right. I like Gold Dots and Golden Sabers. They aren't magic, no bullet is. They are good though. 147g Winchester Personal Defense is cheap and works well enough if your gun shoots it reliably. Mine all do.
Remember though, there's only one thing that kills badguys or game animals and that is shot placement. A .25acp FMJ to the brain beats a .44mag JHP to the pinky toe. Or through the meat of the shoulder, etc. Psychological stops are weird. Some people will fall to the ground sure they're dying if they take a superficial hit from a .22 short. Others will take heavy dammage to non-critical areas and keep on doing whatever they were doing till blood loss or similar catches up with them. |
Re: Anyone familiar with or own a 9mm Sig P226?
The p-226 in 9mm is a world class handgun used by special ops folks all over the world, and standard issue to US navy seal teams. An extended threaded barrel can be used for a supressor, and in combo with an exterior slide lock and proper can is virtually silent when fired. The weapon is extremely accurate and hi capacity. Use radical hollow points mixed with Glaser safety slugs for home defense and Speer hollow points for carry. The weapon is double/single action meaning the first chambered round can be fired by squeezing the trigger or cocking the hammer then pulling trigger. Subsequent rounds are single action (fired from cocked hammer). P-226 has de-cocking lever and positive firing pin block. Get night sights installed (trijicon) and a good pair of rubber grips. The earlier German models had a machined slide (desirable) the newer stamped(still fine). Fine , reliable world class gun.

Most accurate pistol I've ever fired, out of the many that I've privately sold.
